A teenager like any other
Maxime will start high school this autumn. Normally, he and his friends would look forward to
a glorious holiday, but he has to acclimatize to his new reality. Following surgery, Maxime
gradually realizes the exponential improvement in his mental and neuromotor capacities: fast
reading, phenomenal memory, accelerated learning of foreign languages… Not to mention the
fact that an ill-intentioned group is pursuing him and trying, by any means necessary, to
capture him.

the sky and comes to a halt… Could he really be seeing Andromeda? Unbelievable! His
senses contradict his knowledge: M31 is not in the correct plane and seems so close… But
this galaxy is millions of light-years from Earth! A moment of ecstasy… Inexplicable
phenomena… Absolute emptiness. No murmur of wildlife, no rustle of flora, not even the
sound of sneakers skimming along the path.
Suddenly, he has the deep, visceral feeling that someone—or, even worse, something—is
watching him.
About The Author
Fifty years of flying experience
Born in Montreal, the author spent much of his youth in Montreal-North. His lifelong
passion for aviation led him to a diverse career as a professional pilot,
businessman, and author. He completed four tours as a Canadian Air Force fighter
pilot, flying various aircraft, including an exchange tour with the USAF on the
legendary Phantom F-4. Selected for the initial group of CF-18 Hornet instructors,
he became the first Canadian to log 1,000 flight hours on the new fighter. A few
years later, he became a demonstration pilot, showcasing the Hornet at numerous
airshows.
He later transitioned to commercial aviation, working as an airline pilot for another
three decades, flying both Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Now retired, he continues to
pursue his passion for flying and travels the world with his spouse.
“Writing a book has always been a lifelong aspiration of mine. I pursued this goal in my
fifties, but time constraints led me to postpone the project until after retirement. In
2023, I finally took some time off and wrote my debut novel, Déjà Vu.
Throughout the book, I meticulously verified the historical and technical details to
ensure accuracy. Except for the Super VC-10 and the
KN-21, Maxime’s flying adventures in Quantum Rise are
based on real-life experiences.
Interestingly, in 1985, I had the unique opportunity to fly in close formation
with a Vickers VC-10 tanker from the British Royal Air
Force. While holding a few nautical miles from the stage, preparing for my
F-18 airshow routine at the CNE in Toronto, I noticed the
VC-10, positioned one thousand feet above me. Intrigued, I moved in to
get a better view. What a beautiful and sleek machine it was. The British engineers
had done an outstanding job—the aircraft seemed built for speed.”
